From design to the finished piece...
The artisans at JM Jewelers use a process called Lost Wax Casting to fashion custom designed, one-of-a-kind jewelry. This process, which usually takes from four to six weeks from drawing to finished piece, involves the following steps:

1. Using your sketch or suggestions, JM makes any refinements or enhancements to the design and gets your final approval before proceeding. This is an excellent time to make final decisions on any jewels or other stones that will be used in creating your one-of-a-kind piece. JM can help you select a quality stone, or show you how to incorporate stones you may already own.
   
   
2. Once your final design is approved, Your JM artisan precision carves a life-size wax model of your design. The model, which includes all the intricacies and details of the finished piece, requires your approval for appearance and sizing.
   
   
3. By weighing the wax model, JM accurately calculates the amount of gold, platinum or sterling silver that the item will require. This is your final opportunity for revisions before a mold is cast.
   
   
4. A mold is made, in which the wax model is fully encased in a plaster-like substance. By then subjecting the mold and wax to extremely high temperatures, the wax burns away, leaving a cavity for the gold or other precious metal used to fashion your jewelry. JM prefers to use new metal, which has characteristics that add to the overall quality of the ring, but we will recycle metal from pieces that you may already own.
   
   
5. The exact amount of refined, molten metal is carefully poured into the mold, then hardens as it cools.
   
   
6. To retrieve the hardened metal, the mold is destroyed. The metal is filed and polished until it glistens and gleams, then finished to your exact design specifications.
   
   
7. If jewels or stones are part of your design, they are carefully and securely placed in their settings.
   
   
8. Your finished piece is personally signed by the artist and certified. It is now ready to be worn and enjoyed for years and years to come.
